I doubt if this is a genius idea, but I will give it a try
On the Categories page, when you edit a category, you can select no overlap allowed for events in all categories or in the same category.
Can't you use a (or more) category for the events that are not allowed to overlap with events in the same category. And then you can use other categories for "all day" or "no time" events.
But maybe I've not fully understood your problrm.

It works with "no time", which would be a workaround for the presence Problem which is only for information who is available that day.
But it does not help with "different category, same room problem". So i guess either i have to rethink my categories or roel has a genius idea for this in code.

I just tested using "No time" instead of "all day".

If No time is specified, then overlap is allowed.

Let me see if I understand:

You want to set a category to not allow overlap with events of the same category UNLESS the venue for the events is different?

If this is the case, then it is not possible as it is now - only Roel can tell if it could be possible - or if there is a better solution.

Let me try to explain the goal i wish to reach.
Some categories happen to start at overlapping times but in different places, these are no problem.
Some categories are different from each other but happen in the same place, these should be not allowed to overlap.
I do not know if its possible via configuration or if it has to done in code to have a list -> overlap not allowed.
Hope this sets things a little clearer.

Newer tried if it is possible but:

It is now possible to specify for an event: no time.
This is for specifying that you know the event will take place on a specific day, but you don't know exactly what time of the day it will happen. Maybe this can be used. I am not sure what impact it will have for the overlap, but maybe it is worth a try.

It is possible to specify for a category, that overlapping should be allowed if it is not the same category.

It should also be possible to set the categories to allow overlap. Then create the events for that day, and then set the "original" settings back for the categories. But then the events can't be edited without unless you again "allow" overlap for the events category - and then set it back after editing. A bit troublesome, but it should be possible.

The ideal solution would include a paradox - you want no overlapping, but you also want overlap to be allowed.

But maybe I do not fully understand how it should be.
