Most web-based event calendars found on the internet are too complicated, not user-friendly or not flexible enough. So, we made our own.

LuxCal is written in the PHP scripting language, uses an SQLite or a MySQL database to store its data and thus runs on a server which supports PHP and - for the MySQL version - MySQL.
LuxCal produces HTML5 code and has been tested with recent versions of Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, IE and Edge.

Year view shows several rows of calendar months. The number of displayed rows and columns can be changed. Events are represented by small squares which are color-coded according to their category. On mouseover the event details will pop up..
In month view you will see the previous week and a number of future weeks of the calendar. The default number of displayed weeks can be changed. Events are color-coded according to their category. On mouseover the event details will pop up.
Week view shows one week with seven columns, one for each day. Events are displayed in these columns as blocks with a height which is proportional to its duration and a color which corresponds to its category. On mouseover the event details will pop up.

The upcoming events view displays a list of all events of the coming days. The number of days to look ahead can be changed. Events can be edited or deleted by clicking the event text.
The changes view displays a list of all events that have been added, edited or deleted since a certain date. The date to look back can be specified by the user.
The matrix view displays a horizontal scrollable list of all events per event category or per calendar user. On mouseover event details will be shown.
The event window is used to edit events and to add new events. Depending on how the event window has been opened, date and time values can be pre-filled. Date and time values can be entered via the keyboard or via date and time pickers.
The user group page is used to add and to edit user groups. Each user group defines the access rights and other privileges for users assigned to the group. When adding user accounts, the user can be assigned to one of the defined groups.

The categories page is used to add and to edit event categories. Each category has a description and a text and background color. When adding events to the calendar one of the defined categories can be selected. In the calendar views events will be color-coded according to the selected category.
Via the settings page the calendar administrator can set various calendar variables. For example: calendar title, time zone, language file, parameters related to the calendar views, date/time format, etc.
This page can be used to change the user interface styles, like fonts, text colors, background colors, border colors, etc. Changed styles can be saved in theme files and can be exchanged with other LuxCal calendar users.
