Most web-based event calendars found on the internet are too complicated, not user-friendly or not flexible enough. So, we made our own.

LuxCal is written in the PHP scripting language, uses an SQLite or a MySQL database to store its data and thus runs on a server which supports PHP and - for the MySQL version - MySQL.
LuxCal produces HTML5 code and has been tested with recent versions of Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari and IE.

Year view shows several rows of calendar months. The number of displayed rows and columns can be changed. Events are represented by small squares which are color-coded according to their category. On mouseover the event details will pop up. Events can be edited or deleted by clicking the event square and new events can be added by clicking the top of a day cell. Week numbers and month names are hyperlinks which will take you to the week or month view of the calendar.
In month view you will see the previous week and a number of future weeks of the calendar. The default number of displayed weeks can be changed. For each event the title and start time (if any) are displayed. Events are color-coded according to their category. On mouseover the event details will pop up. Events can be edited or deleted by clicking the event text and new events can be added by clicking the top of a day cell. Week numbers are hyperlinks which will take you to the week view of the calendar.
Week view shows one week with seven columns, one for each day. Events are displayed in these columns as blocks with a height which is proportional to its duration and a color which corresponds to its category. On mouseover the event details will pop up. Events can be edited or deleted by clicking the event and new events can be added by dragging the cursor over the required time span. Day headers are hyperlinks which will take you to the day view.
The upcoming events view displays a list of all events of the coming days. The number of days to look ahead can be changed. Events can be edited or deleted by clicking the event text.
The changes view displays a list of all events that have been added, edited or deleted since a certain date. The date to look back can be specified by the user.
The event window is used to show event details, to edit events and to add new events. Depending on how the event window has been opened, date and time values can be pre-filled. Date and time values can be entered via the keyboard or via date and time pickers.
The categories page is used to add new and to edit existing event categories. Each category has a description, a text color and a background color. Colors can be selected from a color palette. When adding events to the calendar one of the defined categories can be selected. In all calendar views the events will be color-coded according to the selected category.
Via the settings page the calendar administrator can set various calendar variables. For example: calendar title, time zone, language file, parameters related to the calendar views, date/time format, etc.
