Could you send me the link to your page with the min-calendar, so that I can have a look myself?

Concerning your mail:
- Are your using PHP mail or SMTP mail (specified on Settings page)
- Does your provider allow mail sent by their customers?

Have you given sufficient rights to the mini calendar user?
If you want the public (not logged in) user to be able to add events, you should give at least "post own" rights.

The mini calendar offers no possibility to log in; so it's meant for public users.
If you want public users to be able to add events (by clicking the upper part of a day cell), then . . .
- you should go to the admin's Settings page and under "Mini Calendar" check the "Mini calendar event posting" check box
and
- on the admin's Users page, you should put the public user in a group with at least "post own" rights.
